Last week I shared some items I’m eyeing based on the “false spring” we’re having in Chicago right now, and I wanted to stay on that theme but flip it around a little. Because in addition to thinking about the pieces that I’m excited to add to my closet, I’ve also been thinking about the pieces that I’m excited to wear again.
I’ve spent a lot of time over the past few years investing in pieces that serve as the foundation of my wardrobe and I’ve realized there are several items I’d absolutely buy again today if I didn’t already own them. So I put together a list of my top 10!
It’s helpful for me to do this before purchasing anything new. It’s the easiest way to make sure I’m not adding something that doesn’t fit with what I already have, and that whatever I’m bringing in actually makes getting dressed easier, not more complicated. I hope it’s helpful!
The 10 Items:
1. A trench coat
The easiest way to look put-together without actually trying. Throw it over anything from leggings to jeans to dresses, and suddenly you feel like you have your life together. Mine is old from Buck Mason, and they don’t have it anymore, but the one I liked from Sezane looks really similar - a very classic cut.
2. A lightweight knit
It’s definitely still sweater weather for another month or two, but instead of my big wool sweaters, I want to start wearing my cotton ones. I love this one so much. The wider collar and bottom hem are really good design details. It’s not bulky, but still substantial - the perfect in-between sweater. Honestly it’s a great summer sweater too…I’m just eager to wear it again!
3. Straight-leg jeans
These are just a classic style that is great to have as a tool in your closet (for all seasons). The straight leg is great for so many different types of shoes, which is really nice in transitional months.
4. A relaxed button up
Oversized, slightly menswear, perfect tucked or untucked. Layer it, knot it, or throw it under your trench - it’s basically the Swiss Army knife of tops. My long time favorite is this Jo Shirt. Any of the color options would make a great late winter, early spring staple.
5. A pair of clogs
For me, clogs are the perfect transitional shoe. You can wear them with socks or without. I’ve had these from No. 6 Store for several years and still love them. They are elevated and comfortable without being fussy. I also continue to love my Birkenstock clogs too!
6. A great striped top
Because sometimes you just need that effortless French-girl vibe. Works with everything - instant polish without thinking too hard.
7. A white tee
Perfect for layering or for those unseasonably warm days. I bought this last summer/fall can attest it’s the perfect white tee! Side note, I’m a big fan of long-sleeve tees with jeans as a version of jeans and a t-shirt when you need a little more warmth. This one looks perfect! Love the scalloped details!
8. An everyday bag
I’m partial to our Sling Bags, but I’m also super excited about the Everyday Bucket Bag that’s launching on March 10th. It’s classic shape with a gorgeous textured leather. A great bag really has the ability to make any outfit look complete!
9. A non-denim, non-leggings elastic waistband pant
Comfortable but polished, these pants feel as comfortable as pjs. I’ve had them for several years and just ordered them in black too. Perfect for travel, errands, or “I can’t do jeans today” days. They are also really easy to dress up or wear with a sweatshirt.
10. A duster
I have had this one for over 4 years and I still love it for the transitional months. I wear it with everything! I know Vincent James is low on inventory, so here is another really good option. :)
Just from these 10 items, I can think of over 20 different outfits! You don’t need to have tons of clothes - just the right ones!

Abby

Hi Abby, I’ve been eyeing those Na Nin pants for years. Is the fabric of the
cream version transparent at all?
