This time of year always feels like another New Year’s Eve to me - a really good time to reset and reflect. So although I’m sharing an August recap, it only feels right to share what I’m looking ahead toward in September.
Summer is always full of family events, and August was no different. We celebrated one sister’s birthday and the other sister’s upcoming wedding with a beautiful shower given by close family friends. How cute is her jumpsuit that we found at Club Monaco?!
We also had our Abby Alley photo shoot for the 9/5 September drop, which was so fun!
Wearing
I found myself wearing a lot of flowy things this month like this Mirth Dress. I have been wearing it casually without a belt and with sneakers or flip flops, but plan to also wear it to my sister’s bridal shower in September belted with heels.
This is what I’m planning to wear as we transition to fall, but still have warmer temps. These are the perfect wide leg denim - incredibly comfortable. I also love a really good dark denim and can’t say enough about these (found them here too). I’m playing around with the idea of giving myself a “work uniform” for making getting dressed even easier and this really good striped button up and this super-soft, black long sleeve will definitely be part of it.
Shoes are often my favorite part of my outfit - I’m excited to wear these Mary Janes (I like this color a lot too), my Birks (really love the chocolate brown too), and my current fave sneakers (these and these) a lot.
Reading
I just finished The Girls of Summer. It was definitely captivating, but not as light as the title may seem.
This nonfiction book about pursuing less and this fiction book (also Oprah’s pick) are currently up next in the stack on my nightstand. Let’s see which one I finish first!
Listening
Happier with Gretchen Rubin: Her Episode called Clearing the Decks was really good - two things I added were deleting downloads and organizing my desktop and deleting and organizing the apps on my phone.
Other than Taylor Swift, I’ve been listening to some John Legend after seeing him at Ravinia a couple weeks ago. I forgot what a good voice he has!
Watching
Quarterback on Netflix is so good. Fun fact: I am a huge football fan. I used to fall asleep watching ESPN when I had a tv in my bedroom. Even if you’re not a huge football nerd, I think you’ll like it!
Season 3 of Only Murders in the Building - Martin Short makes me so happy :)
Around Town: NYC
I just spent 48 hours in NYC and forgot how much you end up walking in that city! If you’re heading there any time soon, Michele Varian and M. Patmos were two of my favorite shops. Olive’s was the perfect place to stop for a bite while making my way through Noho/Soho. If you’re in the area, Emmett’s also has great pizza. If you like Shake Shack, visit the original one in Madison Square Park (I remember going there back in 2005 when it was the only location and it’s still as good as ever). And even though I’ve been to NYC several times and even lived there briefly, I had never done two things that I finally can check off my list - going to MoMA and walking over the Brooklyn Bridge. Both did not disappoint!

I saw this quote and loved it, so I’m sharing it with you. “The very least you can do in your life is figure out what you hope for. And the most you can do is live inside that hope. Not admire it from a distance but live right in it, under its roof.” — Barbara Kingsolver
