As you’re preparing for summer travel, I thought I’d put together a few ideas outfit reading material inspo. I love reading on vacation - something about long plane rides and feeling unplugged that gets me so excited to get into a good book.
The Sling Bag (or Big Sling) is hands down the best travel bag. You can absolutely take any color to any destination, so just take these ideas as a jumping off point. :) Most of these looks can be found on my summer capsule, but I’ll link them here too.
As for the books - I chose books that generally go with the destination, but of course all the books are great choices no matter where in the world you’re heading!
Destination: Somewhere in Europe - think south of France, Amalfi Coast, Portugal, Mallorca
Dress: I picked one from Mirth, one of my favorite brands. I have this exact dress in another print and I love it. This print looks like it would pair so well with the Latte, French Blue, or Oyster Sling Bag (Olive and Tan would likely work well too)!
Shoes: I have these shoes in two colors. They are super comfortable and so easy to dress up or down. Great for travel because they are easy to pack!
French Blue Sling Bag - just feels very European
The Book of Lost and Found - Full disclosure - I haven’t read this one, but Lucy Foley always writes page turners. I loved The Paris Apartment and The Guest List! They are both murder mystery thrillers. The Book of Lost and Found is a historical novel, and I suspect it will be equally captivating as it goes from past to present unraveling family secrets as two love stories unfold.
Destination: The Hamptons, Cape Cod, Nantucket
Dress: This is another Mirth Dress. I linked it in my summer capsule in black, but I also love it in white! And the sandals from above would be perfect here too!
Sweater: This is a gorgeous summer sweater - you always need a layer for those cool evenings by the water.
Oyster Sling Bag: I love an all white/off white look
Bad Summer People - This story takes place on Fire Island and reads like a murder mystery meets Bravo. All the drama and gossip with a ‘who done it’ backdrop. A great beach read!
Destination: I had to include an African safari! The best safaris are in Tanzania - if you need help planning your trip, let me know - I’ve been on about 10 at this point! :)
Pants: This pair and this pair are two great options for field pants. Obviously these are great for everyday life as well.
Button Down: My most worn button down shirt. Love the slightly oversized fit because I can wear it open or buttoned.
Mocha Sling Bag - love this whole color scheme.
The Girl with the Louding Voice - The story of a Nigerian girl turned woman who won’t be silenced. We meet Alduni when she is 14 years old living in her remote village where girls of her age are a commodity to be traded - marriage for money. But the thing Alduni wants more than anything is an education. As her journey (full of unspeakable circumstances) unfolds we get to witness the courage of a girl who will not give up on her dreams.
Destination: Vietnam
Dress: This is the same one from above. I have it in this color and it’s just the best. :)
Sandals: A pair of sandals that go with the Latte vibe
Latte Sling Bag - a beautiful neutral that goes with everything.
The Women - This is my favorite book so far of 2024 so far. Kristin Hannah’s books are always 10 out of 10. Based on true events during the Vietnam Era, this book follows the life of an army nurse and her life both during and after the war. As someone who knows very little about this era in our history, it was deeply moving to read these fictional, but realistic accounts of what men and especially women went through.
Destination: A lake in the middle of nowhere
Dress: I love this Xirena dress - so great for porch days. I have it in black, but any color would be lovely!
Thong Sandals: These are the ones in the picture, but a simple pair of flip flops would also do the trick.
Black or Gardenia Sling Bag - black for a monochrome look or gardenia for a pop of lightness.
The House Across the Lake - I’d put this book in the psychological thriller category. It’s definitely a page turner and the twists will keep you on your toes until the very last page.
I love your fashion recommendations. So many good ones. I've ordered a couple of your recos over time and have been really happy with them.
