Hi Friends,
I hope you’re all having a great start to the year! One thing that’s usually on my mind this time of year is thinking about healthy routines and self care. And over the past few months, I’ve been trying out some new skincare products - so this seems like a perfect time to review them. I am not a skincare expert by any stretch and refuse to do any 7 step routine, but I have found some products that I really love (and some I don’t) and a routine that is working for me, at least for now!
Overview
The companies I’m going to talk about are: Goop, Salt & Stone, The Outset, Skincando, Jones Road, and Flamingo Estate. All of these companies pride themselves on clean ingredients, but again, I’m not an expert, so please do your own research before purchasing. Some of the products I’ve been trying out were gifted and others were ones I purchased. Either way, I will give you my honest opinions! Let’s get started. :)
Goop:
Youth Boost Peptide Serum: This one is solid. It feels a little light, but I’m not an expert on serums. I go back and forth between using this one and the one from the Outset. I’m not sure I notice a difference in terms of my skin.
Face Oil: I have mixed feelings about this one. I don’t love the smell (it’s not bad by any means - just not a selling point) and the recommended 4 drops feels like it’s barely enough. That said, I do really love how my skin looks after putting it on. There’s a natural glow to it that is undeniable. If you’re looking for a face oil, I would recommend this one.
Microderm Instant Glow Exfoliator: This one is fabulous - the best exfoliator I’ve ever tried! I keep it in the shower and use it every other day (or sometimes every three days) and my skin feels so fresh every time. It’s gentle, but effective. Highly, highly recommend!
Salt & Stone:
Body Wash: This is my favorite of the three products I tried. I’m not sure it’s any better than, say, Native, especially for the price, but I have to say I do like it. The scent (I have the bergamot + hinoki) is very mild and all the ingredients are natural. Overall, I’d say it’s a great product. Will I buy it again? Maybe. They do offer a refill set that save $9, which is something. :)
Deodorant: This one is a hard pass for me. It just didn’t work - I feel like I smelled and it’s not like I was using it in the middle of the summer or anything. I gave it about a week and then went back to Native, which is a pretty clean deodorant that actually works for me.
Body Mist: I got it in the bergamot + hinoki again. This one great, if you like the scent, which for me this is a little too earthy/ unisex for me. I prefer something a little more floral. I would like this scent a lot as a room spray (and I like it as a body wash), but for my perfume, it just isn’t my favorite. But if you like the scent, then it’s a great product - so just personal preference. I probably should have gone for the Black Rose scent!
The Outset:
Lip Oil: I did not like this one. I’m not a big lip oil person though. They just don’t work for me. They feel sticky and only last like 10 minutes. I’d just rather use Vaseline and then put on a lip gloss if I want some color.
Cleanser: This might be the first cleanser I use consistently. I leave this one in the shower too. I’m just much more likely to use it there - I am so deterred from making a water mess at the sink.
Firming Vegan Collagen Prep Serum: Compared to the Goop serum, I prefer this one. It feels more substantial - like it’s actually penetrating and hydrating my skin. Like I said earlier, I’m not sure I can see a difference between them looking at my skin though.
Moisturizer: I really like this lotion a lot. Especially paired with the serum - my skin feels totally hydrated. This one isn’t heavy at all. Just a good, solid everyday moisturizer.
If you’re in the market for trying any of these products, they offer the cleanser, serum, and moisturizer as a bundle at a discounted price ($105 for all three). I think it’s worth it!
Skincando:
Face Cream: This is so good. It’s heavier than the one from The Outset, but not in a bad way. Sometimes my skin feels like it really needs some love and this really does the trick.
Miracle Cream: It’s exactly as advertised - perfectly hydrating. You don’t need much to make a difference. It’s meant to be used at night, but I use it around my eyes as an eye cream. I’m not sure if that’s recommended, but I like it. :)
Liquid Silver: I love this product. I put it on after serum and before moisturizing. It feels hydrating and has SPF. This is a daily one for me!
Jones Road:
Miracle Balm: I love this product. I have it in Dusty Rose. I had heard you can use it on your cheeks, lips, and eyelids. I wasn’t sure how that could be possible, but I tried it, and it’s true. Somehow it doesn’t look too pink on my eyes - it’s just a nice shimmer. I think you could totally get more than one color and have fun playing around with it!
What The Foundation: I like this product a lot, but not sure I love it. It’s actually more coverage than I thought it would be, but for a foundation - it’s definitely light coverage. I’ve never owned a foundation before, so to most people it’s probably really light. I am used to tinted moisturizer, so I probably should have gotten this. I’ll probably only wear it on special occasions, but as a foundation, I’d highly recommend it!
The Skin Brush: I got the brush to apply the foundation and I think it’s definitely worth it to have the brush for an even application. It makes it really easy.
Mascara: I don’t have much to say about this other than I love it - love the curved brush too.
Flamingo Estate:
Exfoliating Peppermint Soap Brick: This is by far the coolest and most effective bar of soap I have ever used. It feels like I’m at a spa - the poppyseeds as exfoliators work so well. It’s my favorite part of my shower! So, so good!
The Best Sweats
The last thing I’ll share with you today is these sweatpants that all the women in my family now have. It started with my sister, Hilary - she had heard about them from her friend and ordered them. Then my sister Hannah got them. And after seeing them both in them, I knew I had to get a pair. They both have the gray, which is great. I ordered them in black two sizes (and got the matching sweatshirt) and gave the smaller size to my mom rather than returning them. They are literally a dream. I might get the set in olive too!
xo,
Abby
