One of the coolest things about being an owner of a fashion accessories company is getting to meet likeminded women all over the country. Getting to know Ruth Grubb over the past few years has been such a delight. She’s one of those people who you just instantly get warm and fuzzy vibes around. She’s genuine, authentically herself, and such a creative and loving person. On the surface, I think you’ll see our styles are somewhat different, but when you dig a little deeper, we have a very similar mindset. I hope you enjoy getting to know her - and definitely check out her Substack and Instagram for more!
Tell us a little about you
I’m from Florida, but I’ve been in SoCal for over 20 years, and I’m a beach girl through and through. I love nothing more than a 75 degree day in the sun with my family. I’m a mom of two wonderful little boys who keep me on my toes. I’m a big reader and I love making things… ceramics, sourdough bread, watercolor paintings, and embroidery are things I’ve been keeping my hands busy with recently. I love traveling (always so inspired by the outfits and people watching!) and my husband and I have been some pretty amazing places…Thailand, Russia, and Japan were a few faves. Now that we have kids we love exposing them to different cultures and we’ve spent time in Mexico, Spain and Portugal as a family. I have a trip in a few weeks to Seoul, South Korea I’m really excited about! We try to balance our adventures with chill time so when we are home we love a good movie night.
Tell us about your journey with your own personal style
I’ve loved clothing and textiles for as long as I can remember. I used to spend hours in thrift stores with my mom as a child, and I loved bringing home my treasures to style and re-work to my liking. For over a decade, I was a professional nanny to high profile families and celebrities in LA, and at one point the mom I worked for started asking me for some style advice… which helped me realize how much I loved it and she encouraged me to start doing some stying. I dabbled in that, did some styling for magazine shoots and vintage shops. It was such a fun and creative outlet and gave me confidence to believe I was good at it. After having my second child, I felt pretty submerged in the overwhelm of motherhood, and getting dressed became not only a creative outlet, but a lifeline to who I was “before” and what it means to be human. Getting dressed everyday was an act of self care and determination to show up in the world and feel relevant.
How would you describe your style
These days I’m just having so much fun with my clothing. It’s a dream come true for me that brands, designers, and founders send me their pieces and trust me to showcase them in the world. It’s really such a privilege. I used to try to do the “three word” method with my style, but I realized that could change day to day. I don’t like to feel boxed in and I love expressing my feelings through clothing on an ever-changing basis. So I’m wearing colors and patterns I never would have worn a few years ago and it’s been a great study in self exploration. Have fun with your outfits!
How do you use the Soirée Bag in your everyday life?
I’ve had my little Soirée Bag since it first launched and she’s gone with me on trips, to weddings and events, you name it. I call her my little dumpling, I just love the shape. It’s a perfect bag for dressing up, but I also reach for it at home as a great little pouch in a pouch moment, or when I’m running out and just need my phone and wallet. I love that it looks equally at home with jeans and a tee as it does with a formal dress.
Isn’t she the best?! I love seeing our Soirée Bag through Ruth’s eyes!
xx
