This week’s post is coming a little later than usual because this week has been a bit different. My hometown celebrated the life of a beautiful soul lost too soon at 39 to brain cancer. When something tragic like this happens, life is immediately put into perspective. She got her diagnosis about 2 years ago and her husband shared that when they talked about how they wanted to approach it she said she wanted to keep doing exactly what they were doing…keep living exactly how they had been living. No big trip, no big purchase…just keep being with the family and friends she loved so dearly. And that really resonated with me. People are what matters. Time and experiences with the people we love. In an Instagram world where it is so easy to think we’re missing something because we don’t have x, y, or z, it’s a good reminder that people and relationships are what bring us the most fulfillment, meaning, and joy in life.
Ok let’s shift gears to fashion - a topic that is truly unimportant as far as the meaning of life goes, but is actually important as it’s something we do every day!
Summer Shoes: 10K Steps Approved
So…last weekend I got some pretty bad blisters on my feet from two different pairs of shoes. I’ve been wearing bandaids on my feet all week so I can tolerate wearing shoes. And it got me thinking, what shoes do we wear in the summer that are cute and won’t give us blisters?! I have 4 tried and true favorites (that I will be sticking to for the remainder of the summer) and I asked my sisters and a few of my friends to weigh in as well!

Abby’s Picks:
The Ludo Sandals from Reformation are my top pick by far. I have them in two colors (black and ivory) and they are incredible. So, so comfortable and can look really elevated or casual. They are easy to walk in and don’t slip off. Honestly, get them.
Birkenstocks. I know they aren’t the most stylish shoe, but they are no doubt comfortable and easy to walk in. I have the classic Arizona style in black leather, the white EVAs, and the clogs in taupe suede. I’ve had both for several years - they hold up well. If I were going to get an everyday pair right now, I’d get these. I like the big buckle. If you’re looking to be a bit more chic, I’d do these. The white soles would look great with white pants/white dresses etc.
Sabahs - well I have these Babas. They aren’t open-toed, so they aren’t the best for a steamy day, but they are super cute with a dress or shorts (or pants). They feel like you’re wearing slippers. My guess is the original Sabah style is slightly better for walking, but honestly my babas are great too.
Supergas. I just bought these this summer, and have been loving them! I love a white sneaker in the summer and I love that these aren’t bulky but are still a sneaker.
I’m also going to throw in my Jamie Haller Double Buckle Slides because they are as comfortable as a shoe can be. Because they are slides, I probably wouldn’t wear them on a long walk, but I know I could wear them all day if I needed to.
Hilary’s Favorite:
My sister, Hilary bought these Nisolo sandals for our trip to Mallorca two summers ago. We took this photo at the bottom of a very unintentional hike, but she quickly found out how comfortable these shoes are! She is still wearing them - took them to Portugal last week where she averaged 17K steps a day!

Hannah’s Favorite:
My other sister Hannah bought the same Nisolo sandals in a different color (which is on sale!) after Hilary’s rave reviews for her honeymoon in Paris last summer and like Hilary is wearing them again this summer!

I’m including a second recommendation from Hannah because she’s a corporate gal and has worn these black ballet flats walking in Chicago almost daily…through these last few months of her pregnancy no less. They are so cute and such a soft leather!

Melissa’s Favorite:
Melissa is one of my closest friends. She lives in DC, is the founder of Lubin & Co, a growth advisory company for creative businesses and happens to have great taste! She just had her second baby (how cute is he?!) and takes him and her dog Gus on daily walks. Her go-to shoes are the Adidas Gazelles in this cute clear sky. They are great with shorts or paired with a dress!

Rahel’s Favorite:
Rahel is also a good friend of mine who lives in Chicago and works with artisans in East Africa with her brand, Ilava. I love Rahel’s style - she’s always putting outfits together that are creative and look effortless but also have a touch of the unexpected. When I asked her what her go-to summer shoe is…she said her Adidas Stan Smith’s. No surprise there as she’s been rocking them for years! :)

June Favorites
I love seeing what resonates with you each month!

Sales!
Speaking of Mirth…they just added a bunch of new styles to their sale page. My Kyoto Shirt in Ocean Stripe is included - it’s fabulous! And yes, I’m holding the Ludo Sandals I mentioned above in this pic too. They are truly the best!
Freda Salvador is also running a summer sale - 20% off ballet flats! I personally don’t have any of this style, but I do love the Freda shoes I do have. My friends who do have them swear by the Jada Square Toe Ballet Flats!
Wishing you a fabulous weekend!!

Abby
