Tom and I moved to our new condo on Monday and we are so thrilled to be here! We’re currently living in boxes and chaos - I don’t know what’s more time consuming, packing or unpacking. We’re currently in the stage of analysis paralysis of “where does this go?” Which cabinets will be used for the pots, which ones for the dishes? Where do the candles go? Where should I put my yoga mat? Are my sweaters going on shelves? Just all the things.
I can’t wait to get past this stage and onto the fun stuff like picking out a dining room table and rug for the living room and hanging things on the walls!
But in the meantime, it’s been funny this week to think about which boxes I couldn’t wait to unpack - what I was determined to find or put on right away. So I thought I’d do a top 10 list. :)
1. Espresso Machine
Our morning ritual is one of my favorite things. Tom and I always have a flat white/cappuccino in bed, so even when the kitchen was still half-boxed we had our espresso machine up and running right away. Our espresso machine was a wedding gift and we literally use it every single day! That first cup in the new space really made it feel like we were home.
2. Mug
A good mug is one of life’s simplest pleasures. Tom is in charge of all things coffee and these are his favorite. There’s something about the glass that makes it feel like a little luxury.
3. Ozma Denim and Sid Jeans (also available here in petite)
Comfort is key for me on a normal week, but this week I’ve just needed to not think about what to wear. It was surprising which jeans I pulled for, but when I thought about it, it actually makes sense. Both of these fit so comfortably around my waist. I hate when I feel restricted by jeans and these are the perfect amount of relaxed, but also designed in a way to make them look elevated/ put together. Perfect for going to the studio or unpacking boxes!
I feel like these need no explanation. Everyone needs their perfect lounge pants at the end of the day. These were easy to find because I had brought them with me to Denver last weekend.
5. Alex Mill Jo Shirt
If you’ve been here awhile then you probably could have predicted this shirt would make the list. Crisp but relaxed, the Jo Shirt always makes me feel like I have my life together, even if I’m still surrounded by boxes. There’s something about a classic button-down that works in every setting, from errands to work to unpacking.
6. Mirth Wemberly Sweater
It was finally “chilly” enough to wear a sweater and this was the first one I wanted to wear. It’s cropped in the best way, so even though it’s super cozy, it’s not overwhelming/ too hot for unpacking and moving around a lot. There’s something about a textured knit that’s both grounding and indulgent.
7. Sneakers
My shoes are in about three different places and I’m not ready to figure out where they are going in my closet yet, so I pulled out my chocolate suede sneakers knowing I’d be able to wear these with anything (and they’d be perfect with my chocolate suede Sling Bag). Practical, but giving me all the fall feels too.
8. Outset Skincare
Ok you’re never going to believe this, but The Outset reached out offering to send me their skincare as a gift! I was just about finished with my old face oil, so I decided to take them up on their offer. The box came just before we moved, so I literally packed the unopened box. This was one of the first things I unpacked so I could start my skincare off right in our new place (especially with all the dust flying around). I’ve obviously only used it for a few days, but so far it gets my stamp of approval. Full disclosure - I am not the person to ask about skincare. I may or may not go to sleep without washing my face. Sue me. I have the cleanser in the shower, and then I have the serum and moisturizer I put on when I get out of the shower. The thing I did notice right away is that I really like the weight of the moisturizer - feels super light but also like it’s actually doing its job.
9. Falke Socks
A small luxury that makes a big difference. One of the things I realized in this move is I have way too many old socks - socks that have holes, socks that just don’t feel good, socks that slip around, etc. The first pair of socks I grabbed to wear with my sneakers were my Falke socks and it hit me - I just need to order like 5 more pair of these to rotate. They are the best - soft, structured, and just the right thickness. It’s one of those things you don’t think about until you upgrade, and then you can’t go back.
10. Cozy Blanket
Our realtor gave us this blanket as a gift for the closing, which was over a month ago (we leased back to the previous owners, long story). In the last month, I became very attached to this blanket. It’s just so cozy!
Of course there were the things that were so important they never actually got packed like my Owala water bottle, Chocolate Suede Sling Bag, Espresso Croco Tote Bag, and Warby Parker Beale sunnies. :)
Before I wrap this up, I wondered if I could get your opinion on some upcoming post ideas? It will be two weeks until you hear from me next because next week is our wedding celebration and I’ll be taking most of the week off to be present and enjoy the moment. :)
