Summer, So Far

Favorite finds, favorite moments, and signing off for a little while

This is probably going to be my last post before our baby arrives.

This time last summer we were in Denver creating embryos. This summer we’re waiting to meet our baby. Pretty amazing.

This season has looked different than any summer before it. Not because I haven’t been traveling or sipping rosé on a patio, but because everything has felt like it’s been building toward this one moment.

Before I sign off for a little while, I thought it’d be fun to look back on the things that have made this summer feel like this summer. The things I’ve worn most, the things I’ve eaten on repeat, a few favorite discoveries, and a handful of little moments I don’t want to forget.

The Uniform

If you saw me at all this summer, chances are I was wearing a version of the same outfit: I was probably in a flowy dress (probably from Mirth) or my Skims onesie (or on occasion this Skims dress) with either these sandals or these flip flops and my favorite sunnies. And then of course my go-to rotation of bags: an Oyster Sling, the Soirée in Noir, The Soleil Tote and Basket Tote.

Honestly, I’m just grateful for pieces that don’t feel like “maternity clothes.” They still feel like me, and I know I’ll be reaching for all of them long after baby arrives.

Favorite Summer Moments

The little things I’ll remember about this summer.

• Working out with my sisters and our amazing trainer who keeps us all sane

• Watermelon - not pictured because I usually eat it before I remember to take a photo. 🍉

• My favorite smoothie - get the recipe here

• Jeni’s Ice Cream - all flavors, but in particular, Double Dough

• The World Cup

• Golfing with Tom

• My niece - watching literally anything she does

• Five Star Weekend - I loved both the book and the Peacock series. They did a good job adapting it. If you're looking for a great beach read (or an easy weekend watch), I'd recommend both.

• Weekend breakfasts on our roof with Tom's iced vanilla lattes, farmers market fruit, and pastries. One of my favorite little rituals this summer.

• Watching Tom hit balls on our roof

• So many family events and milestones - my brother-in-law opening the Obama Presidential Center (and all my favorite men wearing Sling Bags!), my niece’s first birthday, my sister’s bridal shower, and looking forward to her wedding later this summer!

Looking back through these photos, what strikes me most isn’t what I bought or where I went. It’s who I spent the summer with. And I’m realizing so much of this season has been about gratitude.

This summer hasn’t been without its challenges - we had a fire in our building that seems to be the gift that keeps on giving in terms of how much work needs to be done and I was in a car accident (the baby and I were thankfully totally fine).

But woven through all of it has been so much to be grateful for. I feel incredibly grateful for my family, everyone’s health, and especially for Tom. My parents used to tell us that one of the most important decisions we’d ever make was who we chose to marry (if that’s something you want in life), and I think they were exactly right.

And I think part of what has made this season feel so special is getting to watch the people I love step into new chapters of their own.

Watching my youngest sister and my brother-in-law become parents this past year has been one of the greatest joys. Their little girl is pure sunshine, and seeing them step into parenthood with so much love has made me even more excited for what’s ahead.

Later this summer I’ll get to watch my other sister begin a new chapter as she gets married. There is something so special about watching the people you love build lives of their own, each in their own way.

And now Tom and I are eagerly awaiting this new chapter of our own!
